The media controls people. Tell me how? give me an example?

the demonization of other countries when they don't conform to the pressures of the us gov. like the weapons of mass destruction myth that was perpetuated by the bush administration when they were trolling for an excuse to go to war with Iraq a blatant lie but it got them what they wanted this lie was put on tv every time they could put it on and many people believed it was true but they found nothing of the sortThe media controls people. Gavin Esler is one of many vastly overpaid so-called ';reporters'; who proved to cowardly to report the simple fact that two one-hundred-ton passenger jets cannot turn two five-hundred-thousand-ton skyscrapers into dust.

So-called ';reporters'; like Esler who front shows on FOX, SKY, CNN, ABC, CBS and the BBC should be viewed as the government paid actors they really are.

These loathsome luvvies will never seek the truth about 9/11. In return they receive eye watering pay cheques for repeating Fairy Tales.

Esler fell in love with the politics of bribery when he worked in D.C as the BBC's White House Correspondent. He's been on the take ever since. Feb. 2009: Nobody should expect the spineless Esler to make a truthful report of the weird-weapons-mass-murders going in Gaza...

  • What controls you more- rationality or emotion? examples are welcome.?

The question says it all. What controls you more- rationality or emotion? examples are welcome.?
alittle bit of both depending on the situation im dealing with.. i cant deal with business transaction using emotion and i cant deal with family issues using rationality.. but i guess im more of a rational than emotional however my rationality is driven by emotions..What controls you more- rationality or emotion? examples are welcome.?
emotion. anger overwelmes rationality. love and happiness acts like a lever between rationality. love vs revenge. not the best to live with
    That depends on the individual.
rationality. that's why head is above everything else. the most common example is l-o-v-e.
I would absolutely love to say that rationality is the cornerstone of my every action. However, I've come to terms with the fact that I cannot control my emotions, and only control the appearance of them to other people. My rationality lacks the subversive power that emotions have over me.

Can you give me examples of how YOU are controlled by the media?

i admit i always have to have the best toys. Can you give me examples of how YOU are controlled by the media?
I don't think anyone can say the full effect of the media on them, as I believe a lot of it is subconscious.

But, many times when a song has a catchy/annoying jingle is used for a product, it gets stuck in your head - especially the irritating ones, and therefore it's constantly pummeling the said product into your head.

Also, I think when products are subtly put into films - like the best example for me is, in a film, whenever someone lights a cigarette [and attention is supposed to be drawn to them lighting it], I immediately want to have one.Can you give me examples of how YOU are controlled by the media?
If I don't hear about it how can I react to it?

I do my best to visit information sources from as many viewpoints as I can and get the best concensious I can from those sources. However many things just don't get reported. An example during the reign of terror against the Militia movement in the 90s most people know of Waco and many have heard of Ruby Ridge but those were just 2 of hundreds of such operations. Typically buried on page 23 in large newspapers you heard about smaller operations, often with no survivors on the sieged. Several a year and how many did I not hear about? What happened to the family that had at the time I read about them withstood the Feds for 3 months already? The story appeared breifly in the newspaper then you hear nothing more ever about it. How many reading this heard about the Granny that stood off the police for 2 months? I stumbled on the story one day.

You hear about things the press wants you to hear about. For example no knock warrents kill people every year. The Granny in Detroit was not unusual. That happens every year but since it was a Granny you heard about it. If you search hard enough you find cases where the wrong house was hit occasionally killing one or more occupents. You hear about people like the Granny who were doing nothing wrong but were killed in a no knock warrent.

It's what we don't hear about that is most disturbing about how the media works. All the while fluff is thrown at us or we hear over and over again about some event until we are tired of it.
idk i think everyone is at some point.

personally, I have to admit when I see a yummy food commercial I really do want to go to that restaurant lol. i can't help it.. it's visually appealing.

also, beautiful models and actresses affects women %26amp; girls .. they want to imitate the beauty that is so obviously being admired. thus make-up, hair products, even clothes are bought in the efforts to look like them
No, because I'm not. I'm pretty thoroughly disconnected from TV and the radio, most of my reading is pre-1900, and what media I do watch are carefully selected movies or other programmes from several languages. But as to allowing myself to be manipulated by ';news'; or advertising--it simply doesn't happen. I've learned that if you shut the TV off your life becomes very free.

I realised the other day that I have no idea who the ';popular'; celebs, singers, songs, TV shows are because they simply don't impinge on my life. I don't know or use the newest slang or catchphrases because I don't know what they are. Or care.

Now, you want to discuss Elisabethan and Jacobean literature, and I'm there.
The effects of the media are believed to be subtle, complex and pervading on occasions and yet so little is really known of how it really affects the heart, the mind and the spirit of us. Many myths have developed about its power and it is misused, abused and disused.
i'm not. but i hate when they take songs that are important to me and use them in cheesy commercials. I mean your going to use ';all you need is love'; to sell diapers?? lennon would be kicking some major corporate *** if he was alive today. I mean, really. The worst part is i am the one who notices or cares. ahh the state of music today is in shoclk
Well, I was a production assistant for NBC and CBS news at varying times in my life...never got over the fact that throughout the years the news simply acts as a televised obituary and crime blog. It has made me scared and depressed so I refuse to watch it any longer.
    Controlled? Hmm..

Influenced? YES! We all are to some extent or another.

My example: I like to shop, I'm sort of addicted. But then again, that's how women are *SUPPOSED* to behave, right?
Ah! Lets give you a little bit of dylan.

I'm involved in a Walmart mixed use development right now. I can tell you that Walmart's newest strategy is to service 50,000 people demographically. So areas are chopped up and broken down in these terms so as to not overwrought any one store.

I could tell you some crazy stories and I am glad you're working on this. Take a look at a documentary out there about the effects of Walmart globally. It's a horrifying film. Check the library. I think I saw it last spring.

Well, just today there was a cat sitting on my mom's table just watching her bird feeder and waiting for an unsuspecting bird, but no birds would come around with that cat sitting there. Occasionally a bird would land on the feeder, but they would then all of a sudden see the cat and fly away.

Well, mice are controlled around the barn by bringing in some good cats.

You can keep rodents away from your garden by the likeness of an owl.

A fake snake'll deter crows from eating your corn.

God used seagulls to eat pesky locusts; saving the Mormons.

Mosquito fish have been introduced to prey upon larval pests in surface water.
My dog kept away someone who wanted to convert me to their religion once. Does this count?
umm...cats are very often used as 'mousers' to get mice and other rodents under control.

ladybugs (i know isn't an animal) are bought for gardens and fields-they like eating aphids and other bugs.

llamas are often kept with sheep herds because, for whatever reason, wolves wont go near them and they are just as easy to care for as the sheep themselves.

i dunno any others. perhaps other YA ppl will give other ideas. there's mine for ya ;)

Is it really under our control to use a kind word or to avoid using an abusive word? Prove by live examples.?

LOL works best to not speak till after you stop and ';think'; , then, yes, it is not only possible, but truthIs it really under our control to use a kind word or to avoid using an abusive word? Prove by live examples.?
Man has been sinful from his youth,Only the spirit of God can change them. If you had a habit of any kind that you like to do and you practiced this habit since you were very young.God says man is born in sin! It would be not by your power nor your might but by the spirit of God. It is a gradual change and Satan does not tempt you with things you never done or do not like to do. He temps you with the things you where active with.Gods love and what he does for us changes us and we turn away from it because we learn a love that surpasses all our natural understanding we began to seek the spiritual things. By his loving spirit and not giving up but seeking him daily asking for help he changes us daily min by min. Soon we do not act the way we use to talk the way we use to we are a new creature. We began to speak kind words of wisdom the way the spirit inside us teaches us.Is it really under our control to use a kind word or to avoid using an abusive word? Prove by live examples.?
Yes We are the soul within the body, higher than the body is the mind and higher than the mind is the intelligence and higher than that is the soul. We as spirit souls are to use our God given intelligence to control the mind and control our actions to right action and speech. Otherwise we are not very advanced spiritually. We do get bad karma for causing others mental and emotional anguish with our words. For more info on this topic go to harekrishnatemple.com Read Bhagavad Gita as it is By Bhaktivedanta PRabhupada- tells how to control the mind and word.
You should make nice with yourself.
Amen. Many professed Christians come on here and have the same spirit as those who deny Christ in word. It is in our control to yield to Christ, and allow Him to control our acts. But many professed Christians deny Christ in act, as those who genuinely deny Him in word. Who is the more guilty? The hypocrite, or the genuine?
When we submit our bodies and purpose in our hearts to not let our members become istruments of unrighteousness, yes we can bring our tongues under control. It also requires putting your spirit in front of our feelings. When we move on emotions, we say the first thing that comes out. When we move by our spirit, we learn to walk in peace and not strife. For me, I had to learn to stop gossipping and stop being so sarcastic.
Of course it is. Think before you talk. It takes practice but can be done.
The only way I know how to answer this is to say that if you are raised to be kind and not use abusive language, that is the way you will be with your own family and others.
sure sometimes instead of attacking i ask ques like why do you come here if you hate us? or do you feel well? to make them think
When I lose temper with someone, my tongue is not in my control and I may become abusive orally. But on other times, I am as sweet as a lark.....
Yes, it's really under our control.

Do you talk to your mother the way you talk to you friends?

Do you talk to a toddler the way you talk to your friends?

Do you talk to your grandmother the way you talk to a toddler?

Our language is dictated by the audience.

    In the scriptures, it's referred to as ';temperance,';

    which is self control.
You sound very nice and I would like to know more about you.
Yes its under our control. I will practice it for the next five days, lol. How am I supposed to prove it live sweety, I am on the internet here.

  • Is the Queen Borg the perfect example of a trinity , is that how Christians need to be controlled?

With the different encounters with the Borg Queen, in which she was destroyed, and yet she exists other places, is a good model for the Trinity Dogma.

God the Son died, but was never dead. God the Father watched the event, and God the Spirit left God the Son before he died.

And the future of Christians of Christendom, weelll, since they look to this scripture:

John 14:20 At that day ye shall know that I [am] in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. (KJV)

    See, the collective!

    More proof?

John 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, [art] in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. (KJV)

    ';We are the Trinity! Prepare to be disappointed!';

LOLOLOLOLIs the Queen Borg the perfect example of a trinity , is that how Christians need to be controlled?
The Queen Borg did think of herself of ';the beginning and the end'; and she was as complicated and mysterious with her different parts that worked together but she is also just as imaginary as the trinity.

We have free will and make decisions individually, the hive was more of a collective of drones. If God worked that he would have created robots or mindless beings doing what he said. He didn't, thank goodness. Is the Queen Borg the perfect example of a trinity , is that how Christians need to be controlled?
Your confusing Christian with weakness. Thier is nothing Weak about a Christian. There is a feeling , a knowledge , a sense, that there is more to oneself, and to life. that we are ment to be here for a reason. Its our birth right to claim it. Ever notice bad things happen to you? Don't clown God.

Its kind of funny , In a life or death situation, Its always the atheist crying the loudest for God to come to the rescue.never fails.
The Trinity loves you. The Queen Borg does not.
The Borg are more intelligent then Christians.

Bush never attacked private citizens. Democrats love to attack private citizens like Joe the Plummer and any other person who speaks out against one of their own. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2007/apr鈥?/a>

Last autumn, there was a military coup in Thailand. The leaders of the coup took a number of steps, rather systematically, as if they had a shopping list. In a sense, they did. Within a matter of days, democracy had been closed down: the coup leaders declared martial law, sent armed soldiers into residential areas, took over radio and TV stations, issued restrictions on the press, tightened some limits on travel, and took certain activists into custody.

They were not figuring these things out as they went along. If you look at history, you can see that there is essentially a blueprint for turning an open society into a dictatorship. That blueprint has been used again and again in more and less bloody, more and less terrifying ways. But it is always effective. It is very difficult and arduous to create and sustain a democracy - but history shows that closing one down is much simpler. You simply have to be willing to take the 10 steps.

As difficult as this is to contemplate, it is clear, if you are willing to look, that each of these 10 steps has already been initiated today in the United States by the Bush administration.

Because Americans like me were born in freedom, we have a hard time even considering that it is possible for us to become as unfree - domestically - as many other nations. Because we no longer learn much about our rights or our system of government - the task of being aware of the constitution has been outsourced from citizens' ownership to being the domain of professionals such as lawyers and professors - we scarcely recognise the checks and balances that the founders put in place, even as they are being systematically dismantled. Because we don't learn much about European history, the setting up of a department of ';homeland'; security - remember who else was keen on the word ';homeland'; - didn't raise the alarm bells it might have.

It is my argument that, beneath our very noses, George Bush and his administration are using time-tested tactics to close down an open society. It is time for us to be willing to think the unthinkable - as the author and political journalist Joe Conason, has put it, that it can happen here. And that we are further along than we realise.

Conason eloquently warned of the danger of American authoritarianism. I am arguing that we need also to look at the lessons of European and other kinds of fascism to understand the potential seriousness of the events we see unfolding in the US
obama's heroes all did the same ';quashing';, hitler, stalin, castro, Mao,, the list goes on. And this way of taking over a country and keeping people ';in check';, has been going on for a very long time in history. This is why the founding fathers created the First Ammendment, and kept it as First.
I can only think of one thing that happened under the Bush Administration that curtailed the rights of everyone.

It's that G.D. PATRIOT ACT. I HATE IT, IT SHOULD BE REPEALED.
    That's the playbook he's using.

What does the literary term Controlling metaphor mean? could u give an example also from a piece of literature

thnksWhat does the literary term Controlling metaphor mean? could u give an example also from a piece of literature
    A controlling metaphor or conceit runs through an entire work and determines the form or nature of that work. An example might be John Donne's ';The Flea';

The term is generally associated in contemporary usage with the 17th century metaphysical poets. In the metaphysical conceit, metaphors have a much more purely conceptual, and thus tenuous, relationship to the thing being compared. Helen Gardner[2] observed that ';a conceit is a comparison whose ingenuity is more striking than its justness.';... a comparison becomes a conceit when we are made to concede likeness while being strongly conscious of unlikeness.'; An example of the latter would be George Herbert's ';Praise (3),'; in which the generosity of God is compared to a bottle which (';As we have boxes for the poor';) will take in an infinite amount of the speaker's tears.

An often-cited example of the metaphysical conceit is the metaphor from John Donne's ';The Flea,'; in which a flea that bites both the speaker and his lover becomes a conceit arguing for the depth of their union:

Oh stay! three lives in one flea spare

Where we almost, yea more than married are.

This flea is you and I, and this

http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0鈥?/a>Does Russia provide us with an example of what life would be like if the religious right controlled America?
Russia is NOTHING like America, thank the ancestral gods! Russians, in general, do not approve of homosexuality now and during the Communist time. Homosexuality was considered to be an example of Western decadence. If you're gay in Russia, you keep quiet about it. Most people are just trying to survive and dont care unless you are overly public about your personal life. As the story said, it was mostly Orthodox church and neo-Nazis holding the protests.

Things happen behind the scenes and most people in large cities know where to go if you wanted to find gay partners. Again, most people dont care unless you're not discreet.

Actually, the American religious right would and do behave worse! Some of the most illogically inane statements I've heard in my life came from American religious right.

BTW: Russia is NOT an atheist state. There are large populations of Russian Orthodox, Muslims and others, as well as atheist. Russia is not communist, either.Does Russia provide us with an example of what life would be like if the religious right controlled America?
No !!Russia is an atheist state, which is why the gay activists are so wrong about christians hating them. In Christian america, gays have freedom, in atheist Russia gays can't even walk down the street holding hands or sillly little rainbow flags without being arrested. The russians still hold homosexuality to be a mental disorder and still incarcerate people for being gay.
I didn't open that link, but is it about how Moscow police put down the Gay Parade a half a week ago? If it's that then I totally agree, it was a horrible thing to do. One man at the scene said ';Gays have no right to be here in Russia';.
actually russia is mostly atheist, so it wouldnt be a very good example.
do not ever compare yourselves or your situation with russia. it so different.
in the south the religious right had on the white hood and was doing the hanging
I think ';hell'; would be a better example.

Can you give me some examples of somebody being controlling?

please help me!Can you give me some examples of somebody being controlling?
Your friend is controlling if it is always her who decides where you go, what clothes you should buy - she doesn't listen to your opinion or consider your feelings about anything.

A boss can be controlling if he ';micro-manages'; his staff. Laying down rules for every single task and not letting anyone use their own judgement or initiative.

People begin to lose their confidence and self-esteem in these situations. Can you give me some examples of somebody being controlling?
controlling people make judgment statements or facial expressions.

some thing like saying ';i don't know about you'; or raising their eye brows when you open up - or telling you that you are inappropriate - or demanding you apologize when you have done nothing wrong - or cutting off contact when you do something they do not approve of and they behave in a catty manner.

if you do not feel ok around someone chances are you ought not be around them - do not try to live up to an others expectation of you.

Explain with examples the two terms Inspection & testing of quality control.?

I'm guessing here, but I'd say:

Inspection - look it over physically. Is everything in place? Is nothing missing. Is anything put in the wrong place?

Testing - run it through its paces. Does it act like it is suppose to? Does it do more or do less or do odd things you didn't expect? Now try to make it bomb or break down. Does it prevent you from doing that?

Please explain with at least 3 examples, how animals; (any) can be used to control pests?

Spiders they are natural pest control, they feed on pest-insects

(I've seen spiders at amy old house kill Water Bugs!!!)

    Snakes Rat/mice killers

Cats: all the above!!Please explain with at least 3 examples, how animals; (any) can be used to control pests?
The preditor animal kills the pest. Wolves kills (some) rodents. So do hawks. Birds will kill insects. Then again, INSECTS kill insects, too...Please explain with at least 3 examples, how animals; (any) can be used to control pests?
    Cats catch and eat mice

    Bats eat moths and mosquitos

    Anteaters eat ants

    2 points
if u mean agricultural pests :: to control certain mosquitoes from breeding in the crops the farmers leave a fish trout which eats the eggs and doesnt harm the crop.:: in stores where grains are kept cats are left for mice i know only two
Some dogs can control pests like rats, raccoons, and burglars. =P
Here are three insects that are great as a safe, biological pest control:

Buy lady bugs larvae and as they develop, the babies will eat aphids and other garden pests.

The praying mantis will devour most mites, eggs, or most any insect in reach including small flies and aphids, beetles, moths and cutworms.

When the green lacewings' eggs hatch, their tiny larvae are known as';aphid lions'; because of their voracious appetite!

The end result for using them equals pretty, healthy flowers and vegetables, all without applying expensive poisons!! Lots more for you at the Garden Insects site.
Easy !!! Animals eat animals, so cats eat rats, snakes eat mice, rats eat cockroaches, spiders eat[and use their webs to catch] mosquitos, where I live in Australia they often introduce species of animals like frogs ect to eat bugs off sugar cane crops but now those frogs[cane toads] have become epidemic and eat everything!

fish eat mosquito eggs[lave] Think about the pest then think ...what eats them?
cats kill rodents, if you get a cat, chances are your mouse problem will disappear. Insects like ladybugs eat other insects, keeping them off our crops and helping us have a good harvest. Small fish have been put into rivers and streams to eat mosquito larvae, helping control the spread of maleria and other mosquito-borne diesases.
cats eat rats, dogs eat cats, and rats eat bugs. food chain baby.
Cats are used to kill rodents

Ferrets are used to kill rabbit and hare.

birds of prey are used by some Airfields to kill or frighten away birds that can be dangerous to aircraft landing or taking off.
Cats are very useful for controlling pests like mice etc but another good use to get rid of pests, A while ago a girl fancied me to much and was always hanging around I tried subtle ways to get rid of her then I found out she was frightened of cats, now I have four cats. I don't see her anymore.

  • What does the literary term Controlling metaphor mean? could u give an example also from a piece of literature

The controlling metaphor is the one metaphor in which an entire book is based.

    According to http://bcs.bedfordstmartins.com/litgloss鈥?/a>

A controlling metaphor runs through an entire work and determines the form or nature of that work. The controlling metaphor in Anne Bradstreet's poem ';The Author to Her Book'; likens her book to a child.

What's the independent and dependent variable in a scientific controlled experiment? Please give examples?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dependent_v鈥?/a>

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independent鈥?/a>

    Example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independent鈥?/a>

The independent variable is changed or altered or somehow manipulated by the experimenter and as a result the dependent variable changes. What's the independent and dependent variable in a scientific controlled experiment? Please give examples?
The dependent variable is what you are measuring for a change when you vary the independent's variable value.

Example the yeild of a chemical in a reaction varies with temperature, but you don't know in what way.

So you fix the time, and do several experiments at various temperatures, then measure the amount produced at each temperature.

Sometimes you are surprised and find out that the independent variable does not have an effect on the dependent variable. What's the independent and dependent variable in a scientific controlled experiment? Please give examples?
The independent variable is the one you can control. The dependent is the one affected by changing that controlled variable.

Lets say you wanted to know the relation between tire inflation pressure and gas mileage. The independent variable is the pressure. The dependent would be the gas mileage.

BTW - I don't know why experimentation is still being taught this way. Statistical Design of Experiments allows you to vary multiple independent variables which give you information on interplay between those variables.
Independent variable : The variable whose value can be fixed or taken at will

Dependent : One whose value depends on the independent variable.
    A(x,y)=aX^2+bxy+cY^2

Here is an example of A(x,y) which a dependent variable. it depends on two independent variables x%26amp;y.We have chosen a second degree equation. You could go to a higher degree to increase the complexity. Scientist has a hunch that Variable A has dependence mainly on two variables namely x%26amp;y. He conducts experiments by changing these vatiables and measuring the value of A for each value of independent variables x%26amp;y. Then these are plotted in the form of graphs. There are several techniques available to arive at the control equation. This is called curve fitting which is one of the methods in the regressive analysis. Once the equation is arrived at we can consider if there are other minor independent variables which can be incorporated to fin tune the equation.
The independent variable is the one that is changed by the scientist and the dependent variable changes in response to the change the scientist makes to the independent variable. And some experiments also have controlled variables. Controlled variables are quantities that a scientist wants to remain constant, and he must observe them as carefully as the dependent variables

Is Swine Flu Just Another Example of Why We Need CONTROLLED Immigration?

In recent years, there has been a resurgence of smallpox and other diseases that were eradicated here in the U.S. coming back as a result of illegal immigration. Imagine if the Swine Flu was a slow epidemic that didn't rear its head for 2-3 years ... imagine how many U.S. citizens would be affected because of uncontrolled immigration.

I'm perfectly fine with immigration because we are a nation of immigrants, but I want to see people come her in an orderly fashion. Legal immigrants are subject to medical screenings prior to entry that will reveal any medical situations that could pose a health hazard. Is Swine Flu Just Another Example of Why We Need CONTROLLED Immigration?
No. More people die each year of the regular flu. Maybe we should let other countries know that so they can keep us out.

    http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/qa/disease.鈥?/a>

    ';About 36,000 Americans die on average per year from the complications of flu.';

Why get mad at ';Froggequence'; for speaking the truth? It amazes me how quickly people will get angry for someone posting the truth or even a different opinion. Is Swine Flu Just Another Example of Why We Need CONTROLLED Immigration?
NO! but that's what the irresponsible reporters and the Republicans want you to think. We need to control the American Spring Breakers bring back these viruses!

    http://crooksandliars.com/susie-madrak/s鈥?/a>

Swine Flu Is Bad Enough, Yet Republicans Always Manage to Make It Worse
Considering how most of the US cases have been tourists who travelled to mexico on vacation, or were Mexican tourists vacationing in the US. No amount of border control would stop the flu from getting to the US, short of turning the entire country into a maximum security prison.
Yes, I'd say it's definitely a wake-up call, but unfortunately our politicians seem determined NOT to face up to the numerous threats posed by uncontrolled immigration.
I am all for control edd immigration but I think your logic is ill here. People brought back swine flue from vacationing in Mexico and how does this have to do with immigration?
Yes, as if we really needed any more reasons to secure our borders and enforce our immigration laws! LOL @ your response to ';Froggequence'; !
We are not a nation of immigrants - over 80% of us are native born. Where did you immigrate from?

Oh yeah - we're sitting ducks for all the third world disease coming in here. Get healthy now!
it would be..if people could think clearly...
Certainly there are some diseases that are brought here from tourists, citizens returning home and from immigration (both legal and illegal). Foreign born populations are much more likely to have diseases, including communicable ones like TB, measles, leprosy and flu. www.cdc.gov

There are many other good reasons to limit our immigration numbers and to have strict controls over who can immigrate and how many should be allowed to enter. These reasons are much more easily definable and include public safety, job security, energy Independence, water shortages, infrastructure costs, space in schools/hospitals/housing/etc.

Once we reach a certain point in our population growth there will be no ability to put the genie back in the bottle and our children %26amp; grandchildren will be left to clean up the mess. This country does not have the natural resources to support the people we already have - why bring in millions more that just makes us more vulnerable to foreign powers???
unfortunately our president is to concerned about how the rest of the world sees us. this type of liberal policy is going to kill many american lives and ruin the country as we know it.the mexicans will be flocking over here in one of the biggest mass Exodus ever. the morons in the whitehouse will do nothing to stop it,the idiot homeland security adviser(nappy)is way over her head and has no idea how to control the border.arizona today has its first case of the mexican swine flu and im sure that's only the tip of the ice berg.due to political correctness Arizona's government lackys are too afraid to tell the citizens of arizona the real count of infected people here.god help us all.
Yes. And the potential for trouble is very very significant.

In the late 1800rds, the Europeans and Middle Eastern Countries were attempt to unload all of their cases of Polio, Intestinal T.B., (France lost over a million men for their army in 1914-18 because of intestinal T.B. and they badly, badly needed those men.). Cancer, TB and you name it, on the Untied States. If you watch the movie America America you discover the story of middle eastern folks coming to this country and the problems they dealt with. We started turning people back by the thousands, and with the reforms that came with Hell's Kitchen, started crafting Immigration Laws that would enable the people who did come, to have a chance. The poverty in Hell's Kitchen was a killer for the illegals and legals who did come.

Swine flue is one.. there are a large number more and I believe most of them are not Hot House Viruses. The Green Belt of Africa and the Green Belt of South America are two of the major sources of pathogens with very high potentials to change the way we live by 100%
It is an indication of quite how out of touch with reality those who get wound up about immigration are.

There is NO correlation, most cases of swine flu in the States will come from tourists returning, and once it's here it's here, it doesn't much care about its route.

Edit. it's an eye opener, if needed, that so many accurate neutral answers get the thumbs down, mine is a bit biased, but some are not.

The conclusion I draw is that those who are over anxious about immigration are not very much interested in facts or thoughts.
Get real. This type of thing have no Effect on Immigration. Doing such thing might would Increase the chances of it spreading here. Remember GOD don't like Ulgy. Don't use this type of thing to get your Hate and Racism on because it won't work. It will only place more and more People on the Immigrants side like it did for President Obama.
Well, the people who have had in here in NY were coming back from vacation.

I'm find with expanded immigration policies and a guest worker program.

Both groups are opposed to capitalism; both endorse Bismarck's welfare state, i.e., a highly controlled stage of the mixed economy; both reject ';extremes'; of any kind, including the principle of individual rights. Bats eat mosquitoes. People provide bat houses and otherwise encourage bats to 'move in', for this reason.

Dragonflies also eat mosquitoes, and the dragonfly larvae (immature stage of life) eat mosquito larvae. People can buy living dragon flies by mail order, to release near their homes.

Don't be stupid, Why would America want to control the world, they can't even control their own country. America is a business and the Americans are just protecting their business assets. Who the hell is America anyway? Do they want political control, not with two opposing political parties fighting for supremacy every few years. Do they want religious control, not with over a thousand religious factions in the USA. Do they want world economic control, Aw come on! If you knew anything about economics you would realise that the problems trying to implement that would cost more than the benefits. Stop letting irrational Muslim thinking mess with your head and examine the reasons why America would want to control the world and the problems that would bring and you will see that it's just propaganda. I don't particularly like Americans but, control the wold? Not this side of Armageddon.
Rome: By AD369 the Empire was beginning to crumble
Virtually every dynasty or empire in recorded BC sought to control the word, as they knew it. You could name 100s of civilizations that tried to control the world. And I hate to tell you, but they were typically extremely bloody. The Romans, the Ming Dynasty, and the Achmaenid Dynasty, are some you've probably heard of. They were pretty successful too. Those empires with the most sophisticated societies, and the manpower, where the ones who succeeded the longest. Overall, it was generally good for the development of man, though some may disagree. The USA isn't trying to control the world: it's trying to shape it, so that mankind can prosper (though of course, it's main concern is the preservation of its way of life). If the US wanted to control the world, as in the times of the Ming Dynasty, it could easily use military force (read special weapons), to wipe out any opposition. So don't ever confuse shaping, or molding the world, with control of the world.
I'll give you more than 3. If you or you're teacher thinks the United States is the only one who flexes big muscles when it should or can, you or she/he are totally wrong. I like everyone thinks that if the U.S. wasn't around no one else would just take over and do a worse job....geez

In A Doll's House: What are some examples of people controlling other people in the story?

Aside from Torvald controlling Nora.In A Doll's House: What are some examples of people controlling other people in the story?
You missed the big one : - Society and social expectations control everyone eg. the expected role as wife and woman that Nora is 'meant' to fit in to, this is why it was so controversial because she and other characters stepped out of the social norm. There is a quote by Torvald that expalins one aspect of societal values that control their lives, ';but to leave your home, your family, you haven't thought of what people will say! this is disgraceful, you are neglecting your most sacred duties'; It is not only Nora and Torvald that are controlled by society but every character, have a look through and see how all the characters behave in ways to stay within the social boundaries and how they are treated when they step away from them for their personal intergrity. This is why Nora refers to herself as a doll, she is not only being dictacted to by Torvald but social rules are forcing her to behave in a certain way.

There is also sexual control, have a look at the way women use their sexuality to get what they what from men. Nora na Mrs Linde both control men by flirting with him and definetly take a look at the Tarantella dance Nora does.

hope this helps, there are heaps and heaps of examples of control in there, these are just a few.In A Doll's House: What are some examples of people controlling other people in the story?
Krogstad does threaten to blackmail Nora if she does not help him from being fired by Torvald.
The bank managers control both Torvald and Krogstad, and through Torvald, Nora. Torvald and Nora control their children. In a sense, Nora's father still controls her, although he is no longer alive.

The behavioral method believes that we are mechanically controlled by our environment. GIVE AN EXAMPLE!?

Well, we are NOT mechanically controlled by our environment...even if people like Pavlov and B.F. Skinner thought so over 50 years ago. We've learned a few things since then.

Humans can think analytically. In this important way, they aren't like animals. So the stimulus-response reaction that is the centerpiece of behaviorism doesn't always work as it does with animals. With humans, the process may well be stimulus-analysis-response.

    For example, when my spouse kisses me on the neck, this is something that has happened a gazillion times, and I immediately respond with emotion and usually behavior. But there have been times when this happened and I thought, ';Wait a minute, if we make love now, we'll be late to the symphony. Those tickets cost over $100. So not now...we can make love later.';

This is why even though you have to study it in college, behaviorism is no longer the prevailing paradigm of psychology. The behavioral method believes that we are mechanically controlled by our environment. GIVE AN EXAMPLE!?
When I come home I can light the candles (visual), pour fragrant bubbles in the bath (aroma), and relax (senses) because it's 6:00 (reinforced behavior) and everyone knows I cannot answer the phone so they do not call. I am like the chicken in the carnival who pecks the tiny piano keys to receive a kernel of corn. Therefore, if I were afraid of elevators, I should get on one (by force if necessary) and ride it all day!! Instant cure!! Change the behavior, change the person. ( Don't buy it myself though.)

If you have a cat it will eat mice or rats.Frogs will eat fly and other flying bugs.Ant eaters eat ants. And also a Venus fly trap will eat some insects but they aren't animals
Rural areas used poultry to help control insects. They kept dogs to keep foxes, wolves and coyotes out of the yard and deer out of the garden. Cats have already been mentioned.

A remote control is basiclly when you ';take control'; of another computer not being there, for example, if you work on an office and your partner need some help, YOU from your desktop ';run'; a program and then you are allowed to view and interact with this computer not being there. There is a lot of programs can do this, my favorite (free, small, enough) is ';Virtual Network Computing'; from RealVNC.

examples of this, please, i can't find that much!!

mostly in the 1800 to the early 1900s. thanks for your help!Great britain had indirect control of Egypt and north african regions, any examples?
Britain's 1882 military occupation of Egypt (itself triggered by concern over the Suez Canal) contributed to a preoccupation over securing control of the Nile valley, leading to the conquest of the neighbouring Sudan in 1896鈥?8 and confrontation with a French military expedition at Fashoda (September 1898).

In 1899 Britain completed its takeover of what is today South Africa. This had begun with the annexation of the Cape in 1795 and continued with the conquest of the Boer Republics in the late 19th century, following the Second Boer War. Cecil Rhodes was the pioneer of British expansion north into Africa with his privately owned British South Africa Company. Rhodes expanded into the land north of South Africa and established Rhodesia. Rhodes' dream of a railway connecting Cape Town to Alexandria passing through a British Africa covering the continent is what led to his company's pressure on the government for further expansion into Africa.

British gains in southern and East Africa prompted Rhodes and Alfred Milner, Britain's High Commissioner in South Africa, to urge a ';Cape-to-Cairo'; empire linking by rail the strategically important Canal to the mineral-rich South, though German occupation of Tanganyika prevented its realisation until the end of World War I.

Give two examples of transcriptional control in prokaryotes.?

Cells have 2 ways of controlling metabolism: Regulating enzyme activity and regulating enzyme synthesis.

    1. Regulating enzyme activity: The end product of an anabolic pathway may turn off its own production by inhibiting activity of an enzyme at the beginning of the pathway. (feedback inhibition).

    2. Regulating enzyme synthesis: Accumulation of products triggers a mechanism that inhibits mRNA production by genes that code for an enzyme at the beginning of the pathway. (gene repression).Give two examples of transcriptional control in prokaryotes.?
    1. rate of transcription initiation. the presence of enhancer/silencer DNA sequences will cause protein-mediated bending, facilitating the binding of RNA polymerases, which increases the rate of transcription initiation

    2. state of compactness of DNA. transcription cannot start if DNA is still associated with proteins.Give two examples of transcriptional control in prokaryotes.?
most genes are always exressed but there are some that needs to be controlled at transcriptional level larggely to conserve energy.

there are two major transcriptional controls in bacteria positive (induction of gene transcription) and negative (repression of transcription) controls.

an example of positive control would be lactose utilization operon. adding a new substrate like lactose to the culture medium induces the formation of new enzymes capable of metabolizing this substrate.

and an example of negative control would be a repression of tryptophan biosynthesis operon, when tryptophan is present in the medium and the bacteria shuts down the synthesis of its own tryptophan so as not to spend extra energy on making something that is already present in the medium.

  • Can i have some examples of when ';pot control' is a good idea?? ( NL Holdem)?

the main time to control the pot size by playing conservatively is when you have a fairly strong hand but the board is dangerous...for example you have A-K and the board shows A-10-5-4 with three spades, and you have no spades...in this spot, with the flush possible, you might want to slow down and check the hand, because you don't want to get called or raised and not know whether you have the best hand or not and play a larger pot than necessary...by checking, you might be able to play a little smaller pot and make the decision on the river a little easier

    Nazi Social Control:

    (a) Control of mass media.

All the means of communication were monopolized by the government. The press and the cinema had to show pictures glorifying the Nazi movements..

    (b) Control of education.

Education, from kindergarten to university, was a toll for indoctrinating the young. Boys (10-18 years old) were sent to the Hitler Youth, girls (10-18 years old) to the Hitler Maidens. School textbooks were re-written along Nazi lines (e.g. race study was emphasized). University professors were required to wear swastika and take an oath of allegiance to Hitler.

    (c) Crushing of discontent. Hitler also made use of the S. S. (Hitler's elite body-guard) to execute many of his political opponents and put them into the concentration camps.

By doing all of this, the Nazi's were able to gain control over the German people into believing and conforming to Hitler's beliefs and attitudes and seeing them as right and logical.Examples of social control?

In what ways do beliefs drive actions? What are some examples of beliefs controlling actions in your life?

I am a Christian but my beliefs go deeper than that. I believe that anything worth having is worth working for. Every day I work for my family, my marriage, my health. I go out of my way to do little things for my husband and son, and they do the same back. Little things like making his butties for work or washing his favourite cup even when there's nothing else to wash up just so its ready for him. And he does little things back like pre-setting the coffee maker so its ready when i wake up.

I believe in sharing. If I win on the lottery, i put something in a charity box. If I have a penny, and someone's short at a till, I pass it on. I try to share my time as much as money. You know at bus stops there's always a mad old dear starts talking to you? Listen. It doesnt slow you down, you get off as normal, but you've talked to someone new and made their day brighter. Sometimes it comes back on you-I talk to the trolley guy at Tesco. He's older, he's lonely, he likes to talk. It only takes a second to say ';how you doing?'; and in the pounding rain last month, I always received a dry trolley. It made me feel good to give those few seconds every week, and im sure it was good for him to see my grateful smile as i put my toddler in a dry seat.

Linked to that, I believe in helping others. I help people with bags and prams on buses, i give up my seat. I always make time for faimly and friends to talk. If you have nothing else, giving of yourself is the greatest gift you can offer.

And quite seasonal too!In what ways do beliefs drive actions? What are some examples of beliefs controlling actions in your life?

    Give atleast some hints please.

    4) In what ways do beliefs drive actions? What are some examples of beliefs controlling actions in your life?

I will share one of my beliefs with you. I believe that when we do our own homework, and then the teacher grades it and hands it back, we learn. We become better people. The next homework challenge gets easier as we hone our study and research skills. If someone else does our homework for us, we don't learn and we don't grow. We cheat ourselves.

Think of examples of your own beliefs. Write down a list of them. What do you believe about common things like the doorbell ringing? What do you believe about women, or men, or yourself? How do these beliefs make you act? Then choose from that list to answer this question. Good luck.

What is weather control? give me examples of it?

it has something to do with artificial weather changingWhat is weather control? give me examples of it?
Weather control is the act of manipulating or altering certain aspects of the environment to produce desirable changes in weather.

The first example of practical weather control is the lightning rod.

    Cloud seeding :

Cloud seeding is used in several different countries, including the United States, the People's Republic of China, and Russia. In the People's Republic of China there is actually a perceived dependency upon it in dry regions, which believe they are actually increasing annual rainfall by firing silver iodide rockets into the sky where rain is desired. What is weather control? give me examples of it?
That refers to a Cold War conspiracy theory that the Soviets possessed a weapon to control the weather. As far as current and near- to medium-term weather changers, don't worry about it. It will not happen unless a MAJOR breakthrough happens that shakes down all scientific theory from the last 50 years.
    109th U.S. Congress (2005-2006)

    S. 517[109]: Weather Modification Research and Development Policy Authorization Act of 2005

    Sponsor:

    Sen. Kay Hutchison [R-TX]

    http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c1鈥?/a>

Convention on the Prohibition of Military or Any Other Hostile Use of Environmental Modification Techniques

Signed in Geneva May 18, 1977

Entered into force October 5, 1978

Use of environmental modification techniques for hostile purposes does not play a major role in military planning at the present time. Such techniques might be developed in the future, however, and would pose a threat of serious damage unless action was taken to prohibit their use. In July 1972 the U.S. Government renounced the use of climate modification techniques for hostile purposes, even if their development were proved to be feasible in the future.

    http://www.state.gov/t/ac/trt/4783.htm
Weather control as the name suggest is modification of weather by arteficial means. For example Cloud Seeding to make the water bearing cloud rain. This is achieved by spraying (Seeding) the cloud with crystals of Silver Iodide.

This has been practised with varying degree of successes.

Well, I'm running out of time, but I'll try to answer this the best I can . . .

There's one. A time restraint will control your decision making, forcing you to decide quicker than usual or brief your answers to a point where they might not be as clear as if you'd answered them with plenty of time. Unfortunately, in todays modern world, time controls everyone if they let it. Jobs, appointments, etc, all affected by something that causes you to spend time on something other than your main objective will cause you to be ';controlled by time'; during that period of rush. Can you give an example how person is controlled by time?

Oh wow, I've forgotten much of that terminology, but if I can slightly recall I believe gain is more the term for the sound's actual amplitude -vs- Volume which is more dedicated to a series of amplication of the sound through controlled electrical resistance.. Pending on the equipment at hand.

Gain should be used at the low end level (Mostly at Input)

and Volume at a high end level for control at output.

Examples or Definitions of a negative control?

Hey Guys! I'm doing an assignment and they are asking me about negative controls. I don't understand what a negative control is and after looking a various sites including Wikipedia I still don't understand. Could you guys explain it to me or give me some examples to try and help me out?

Thanks :)Examples or Definitions of a negative control?
When you run an experiment you usually run a negative control to check for contamination.

A negative control is exactly what it sounds like, a controlled part of the experiment in which negative results are expected.

For example, if we are interested in answering the question ';In what temperature does yeast grow the best in?'; We would go about making petri dishes of the yeast and putting them in various temperature conditions, such as 15C, 20C and 25C incubators. The negative control would simply be a blank petri dish that we would put in the incubator. After looking at the plates days later, we would expect growth on some of the yeast, and no growth on the negative control.

The reason we include the negative control is to show that there is no contamination in the yeast plates. If something were to grow in the negative control, we would have reason to believe that all the other yeast plates were contaminated as well which would give us skewed or bad data.

    Hope that makes sense.

Would the following be an example of fostering free will and independence or is this just social control?

    There is a group of people (they know who they are) who force little kids, three and four sometimes, to stand in front of large seated groups of people and parrot exactly these words, ';I know this church is true.';

    Once a month, the adults in this group -- several of them that have been called upon to do suffer through this -- stand up and then parrot the words ';I know this church is true.';

What is this?Would the following be an example of fostering free will and independence or is this just social control?
Not my church. My church leader told the parents not to let their kids go up and share their testimony, and that if their kids wanted to share their testimony they should do it at home.

I'm glad my church does it this way. Forcing people to say things they don't know they believe is horrible. I would have died of fright, I'm so shy!

EDIT: I was born into my church, active my whole life.

I'd just like to add, the only Children I see go up go up on their own and they are just glowing. You know they wanted to do it, they were not forced in any way. I once saw a little sitting on the seat in front of me ask her mom if she could please go share her testimony and her mom told her she couldn't go up that Sunday, the little girl was kinda sad about that.

    ';Young children should be encouraged to bear testimony in sacrament meeting only when they feel the Holy Ghost prompts them to do so, and when they can do so on their own. By not directing their expressions, we are conveying the important principle that testimonies are not a recitation of words but an opportunity to express sincere feelings related to the truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ.';

That's brainwashing, indoctrination, and wrong. Free will means making a choice, not a coerced choice. Children don't know that there are literally MILLIONS of churches, all of which think they are right. Therefore, the choice is not free will.

    That cult is sick.
Sounds like social control at the least and more like brainwashing.

Saint Louis, MO. (Iraq, USA), is a shooting gallery and has the SECOND HIGHEST crime rate (second to Detroit, MI.), and is run by a DEMOCRAT MAYOR.

And don't ask about the school's,,,,,,they have been robbed silly and are BROKE ! (Thanks to the Democrats)
You have a valid point. I disagree with your first answer. Democrats control cities and even the best are in bad shape.

I live near Pittsburgh. The city has been under control of the state and county commissions for the past five years because of fiscal calamity. The mayor is campaigning right now and is singing his own praises. Yes, he is a democrat.
It is the GM, Crystler and Ford that have destroyed the city. Especially GM with their arrogance.

I know few engineers who for GM and have seen them from decent to abnoxious to now arrogant and rude. We were in same circle, but now we don't associate with them.
If you're going to discuss cities led by Dems, it would be honest of you to include the many, many other places in the country lef by Dems that are thriving: San Francisco, Chicago, New York City, etc., etc.
Sure is. Add, from my own experience, DC, Baltimore %26amp; Newark, NJ.
Detroit is a disaster because it's manufacturing economy disappeared. Period.
And because of their failures, they will receive the #1 pick in the draft...
yawn! Go suck a tailpipe. Save the oxygen your pointless body wastes for others.
    You said that right !
    i agree with Kman
Oh, I kind of prefer how they have handled the west coast.

Even with Republican intervention the collapse of those states isn't far off.

    Washington:

Sen. Margarita Prentice, D-Renton, chairwoman of the Senate Ways %26amp; Means Committee, said the time has come for the Legislature to stop griping about cuts.

    ';I'm really tired of the whining and complaining,'; Prentice said. ';This is where we are.';

But Hewitt repeated what Republicans have said throughout the session -- that the pain could have been lessened if Democrats had acted earlier.

';This process should have started some time ago and some of these draconian cuts would not have been made,'; he sad.

And he criticized Democrats for negotiating the budget behind closed doors and not clueing Republicans in on the cuts before unveiling the revised budget to the press.

    ';There was no transparency in this,'; Hewitt said. ';This is arrogance at its finest -- not doing us the courtesy of showing us what's in this budget before breaking it to the world. I don't remember it ever happening this way as long as I've been here.';

    Oregon:

shadow loomed over the health department, which could lose 20 percent of its funding for programs ranging from immunizations for children to care for the disabled, veterans and mental-health patients.

';Simply, at some point, we will not be able to do more with less,'; said Mark Orndoff, director of the county's Health and Human Services Department.

Of its $50 million budget, more than $33 million comes from the state, which leaves Orndoff's department vulnerable to state cutbacks. He said the budget problems could mean some of the programs the county now runs might have to be turned over to the state.

Orndoff made his presentation to the Jackson County Budget Committee, made up of three county commissioners and three community members

    California:

When California's legislators finally agreed on a state budget in mid-September of 2008 - more than four months late - they adopted some temporary measures that, if uncorrected, would have left state taxpayers with a $40 billion shortfall by 2010 unless corrective action was taken.

In response, the legislature and the governor agreed on a revised budget package in February of 2009 that would bring in nearly $98 billion in revenues and spend about $92 billion, with the nearly $6 billion difference used to cover a year-end deficit in the 2008-09 budget and build up a reserve account for future years.

The package included nearly $15 billion in spending reductions, most of which affected funding for students attending kindergarten through high school. Reductions also called for furloughing state workers, eliminating inflationary or cost-of-living adjustments for many programs and reducing other services.

The package also included tax increases of nearly $12.5 billion, mostly by increasing the state sales and use tax to 8.25 percent. Other taxes that are rising are vehicle license fees and personal income tax.

Detroit has lost its economic engine AND most of its population over the past 30 years. Are you really surprised the city struggles so much?

Should we also talk about the Red state that rely on federal dollars to stay afloat? They take MUCH more from the pot than the contribute and they lag in most areas like education and health.

The GOP has run this country for most of the past 40 years. Hello?
Maybe its just the American way of dealing with poverty?

Our federal government has only been led by Democrats for twelve of the past forty years.
