Russia is NOTHING like America, thank the ancestral gods! Russians, in general, do not approve of homosexuality now and during the Communist time. Homosexuality was considered to be an example of Western decadence. If you're gay in Russia, you keep quiet about it. Most people are just trying to survive and dont care unless you are overly public about your personal life. As the story said, it was mostly Orthodox church and neo-Nazis holding the protests.





Things happen behind the scenes and most people in large cities know where to go if you wanted to find gay partners. Again, most people dont care unless you're not discreet.





Actually, the American religious right would and do behave worse! Some of the most illogically inane statements I've heard in my life came from American religious right.





BTW: Russia is NOT an atheist state. There are large populations of Russian Orthodox, Muslims and others, as well as atheist. Russia is not communist, either.Does Russia provide us with an example of what life would be like if the religious right controlled America?
No !!Russia is an atheist state, which is why the gay activists are so wrong about christians hating them. In Christian america, gays have freedom, in atheist Russia gays can't even walk down the street holding hands or sillly little rainbow flags without being arrested. The russians still hold homosexuality to be a mental disorder and still incarcerate people for being gay.
I didn't open that link, but is it about how Moscow police put down the Gay Parade a half a week ago? If it's that then I totally agree, it was a horrible thing to do. One man at the scene said ';Gays have no right to be here in Russia';.
actually russia is mostly atheist, so it wouldnt be a very good example.
do not ever compare yourselves or your situation with russia. it so different.
in the south the religious right had on the white hood and was doing the hanging
